The Time of the Duha Prayer and the Number of Its Rak'ahs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was received by the program from the listener Sumayyah from Jordan, asking about the time at which the Dhuha prayer is performed, how many rak'ahs it consists of, and whether it has a specific supplication.

Answer:
The Dhuha prayer is recommended. It begins when the sun has risen the height of a spear and continues until the sun stands still at its zenith. Its best time is when the Dhuha is intense, based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The prayer of those who are penitent is observed when your weaned camels feel the heat of the sun.صلاة الأوابين حين ترمض الفصال
Sahih Muslim 748a
Therefore, the best time is when the Dhuha is intense, one or two hours before the midday prayer; this is the best. If the Muslim prays it at the beginning of the day after the sun has risen the height of a spear, or during the rest of the Dhuha time, all of that is good, and praise be to Allah.
Its minimum is two rak'ahs, and there is no limit to its maximum. Some scholars said that its maximum is eight, but there is no evidence for that. If one prays eight, or more, or less, there is no blame in any of that, and praise be to Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the Dhuha prayer eight rak'ahs on the Day of the Conquest, may peace and blessings be upon him. He used to pray two rak'ahs when he visited Quba on Saturday mornings, may peace and blessings be upon him.
So, the conclusion is that its minimum is two rak'ahs and there is no limit to its maximum. If one prays eight, he should conclude every two rak'ahs with a salam; this is good and in accordance with the action of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he prayed it in the Noble Mecca at the time of the Conquest. If he prays twelve, or twenty, or more, he should conclude every two rak'ahs with a salam; based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Prayer by night and day should consist of pairs of rak'ahs.صلاة الليل والنهار مثنى مثنى
Sunan Abi Dawud 1295Sahih (Al-Albani)
It was narrated by Imam Ahmad and the people of the Sunan with a good chain from the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
So, the conclusion is that the Dhuha prayer is prescribed and a recommended practice, a great act of devotion. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised some of his Companions to perform it. It is a confirmed recommended practice that begins when the sun has risen the height of a spear and continues until the sun stands still, meaning: until about a third or half an hour before the midday zenith. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
