Question:
After this, a message reached the program from a listener in the United Arab Emirates—also—saying: (A. S. Muhammad) asks and says: Tell us about riba, how it is, and I hope you will give advice to Muslims regarding it? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Riba is among the greatest of major sins, and Allah has threatened it with great punishments. He said—(Exalted and Majestic is He)—in His great Book:
Those who consume riba do not stand
meaning: from their graves
except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanityإِلَّا كَمَا يَقُومُ الَّذِي يَتَخَبَّطُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ مِنَ الْمَسِّ
[Al-Baqarah 2:275]
This is a punishment—seeking refuge in Allah—specific to this usurer. And He said—(Exalted and Majestic is He):
Allah destroys riba (usury or interest) and multiplies charities.
[al-Baqarah:276] threatening to wipe out riba, wipe out the wealth of riba, and remove its blessing. He said—(Exalted and Majestic is He):
But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah. But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.
[al-Baqarah:275], this is a great threat. Whoever returns to riba, Allah threatens him with the Fire. This is a great threat; one must be cautious.
And He said—(Exalted and Majestic is He):
(278) O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. (279) And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and Hisيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَذَرُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبَا إِنْ كُنتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ ۝ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا فَأْذَنُوا بِحَرْبٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ
[al-Baqarah:278-279] making riba a war against Allah and His Messenger. This is a great threat, indicating the greatness of the sin and the magnitude of the sin.
So it is obligatory to be cautious of riba in all its types. It is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he
cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses, and he said: They are all equal.
Sahih Muslim 1598
, so Allah warned against riba and informed that its people are in the Fire and threatened them with the Fire. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) likewise cursed them for the evil of their deeds.
So it is obligatory for the Muslim to fear Allah, to account for himself in this matter, and to be cautious of all types of riba in all his transactions; because riba is among the greatest of major sins, as Allah—(Exalted and Majestic is He)—clarified in these verses you heard, and in the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Avoid the seven destructive sins
meaning: the destructive things. We said: What are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said:
To assign partner to Allah, magic, to kill a soul (man) which is prohibited by Allah except for which is due, to take usury
Sunan Abi Dawud 2874Sahih (Al-Albani)
He included among them
consuming the property of orphans, fleeing on the day of the march (to battlefield), and slandering chaste women who never even think of anything touching their chastity and are good believers.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3671Sahih (Darussalam)
so accusing a chaste, heedless, believing woman of fornication is among the greatest of crimes, among the greatest of destructive things.
So the point is: that riba is among the ugliest of evils, and among the ugliest of major sins .... from the seven destructive things. We ask Allah for safety.
Its reality is two things: one is riba al-fadl, and the second is riba al-nasi'ah. So riba al-fadl: is that one sells a type for its type with a difference, like a dirham for two Saudi dirhams, a dollar for two dollars, a pound for two pounds. This is explicit riba. Riba al-fadl is called riba al-fadl, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it and was severe in that.
The second type is called riba al-nasi'ah: and it is that one sells a type of riba wealth for another type on credit. If it is of the same type, it contains both riba al-fadl and riba al-nasi'ah together. For example, if one sells one hundred Saudi riyals for one hundred and ten on a deferred date, this is riba al-fadl and riba al-nasi'ah together. As for riba al-nasi'ah: it is that one sells a type of riba for another type not received in the meeting, called riba al-nasi'ah. For example, if one sells dirhams for gold, or dollars for Saudi riyals on a deferred date, this is called riba al-nasi'ah, and it is not permissible by the consensus of Muslims.
So it is obligatory to be cautious of riba in its two types: riba al-fadl and riba al-nasi'ah both, and to be cautious of deceiving regarding that. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.

The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
