The Ruling on Cursing One's Luck or Fortune

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener (A. M.) from Jordan sent a question, saying: What is your opinion, Your Eminence, regarding a person cursing his luck or his fortune? Because this is often heard on the tongues of some people. Is there a sin in that?

Answer:
Yes, it is not permissible to curse luck or fortune; it is not permissible to curse it. Rather, one should say: "Qadar Allah wa ma sha'a fa'ala" (Allah has decreed and what He willed has happened), and ask his Lord for success and assistance, and that He make his affairs easy and fulfill his needs. He should not curse his luck or his fortune. Cursing is prohibited. A person should not curse his time, nor his luck and fortune, nor his place. Rather, he should seek forgiveness from Allah, ask his Lord for success, and repent to Allah from his sins, for what befalls him is nothing but a sin. He should strive to repent to Allah, as He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُوا عَنْ كَثِيرٍ
[Surah al-Shura: 30]. And He (Glorified is He) said:
but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourselfوَمَا أَصَابَكَ مِنْ سَيِّئَةٍ فَمِنْ نَفْسِكَ
[Surah al-Nisa: 79].
The point is that the believing man and the believing woman must always repent to Allah, hold themselves to account, and guard against sin, whether it be cursing or otherwise. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
