Combining the Recitation of the Qur'an with Books of Sacred Knowledge
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the female listeners from Libya, the sender (Muna M. A.) from Benghazi, asks and says: In the evening, especially after the 'Isha' prayer, I read from books that deal with religious matters, such as acts of worship, the biography of the Prophet, transactions, and others. This reading may take hours of my time, and sometimes I read until after midnight. My question is: Is this reading of religious books considered a gathering for the remembrance of Allah, or is reciting the Qur'an, glorifying Allah, and seeking forgiveness better as a form of remembering Allah, especially at night? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
The believing man and woman combine all of this. One reads the Qur'an at a time when one reflects and understands, and one reads books of knowledge, books of the noble hadith, and books of jurisprudence to learn and gain understanding of the religion. So one does not suffice without the other, nor the other without this. If you read at night in a way that does not harm you, does not prevent you from standing in night prayer, and does not cause you to sleep through the Fajr prayer, then all of this is good.
And if you have a husband, you must take care of his feelings and his satisfaction. Do not occupy yourself with anything to the neglect of him, except with the obligatory acts that Allah has made obligatory and the regular voluntary prayers that Allah has prescribed. If you do not have a husband, then praise be to Allah; strive in good, sometimes in the Qur'an, and sometimes in the reliable books of knowledge, such as Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, the well-known books of the scholars, such as the books of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim, the well-known sound commentaries, the Four Sunans, Muwatta Malik, Sunan al-Darimi, and the like, for benefit if you have knowledge. And if you have a deficiency, then ask the scholars as well. Do not rely on your own opinion. Ask about what is difficult for you. You are in a great state of goodness, and this is part of knowledge and part of the remembrance that Allah has prescribed for His servants. Yes.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
