Ruling on reciting the Qur'an with more than one recitation in prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 4276 )
Q1:Is it permissible to recite a verse in prayer using different canonical recitations within a single rak'ah?For example, if we recite:
Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ
[Al-Fatihah 1:4]
"Malik yawm al-din." If it is not permissible, what is the ruling on the one who does so?

A1: It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he did not recite in his prayer, neither in al-Fatihah nor in anything else, a word from the Qur'an with two different recitations, as far as we know. This was not transmitted from his Rightly Guided Caliphs, nor from any of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all). It is not befitting to do that. Whoever does it and persists in it has innovated in the religion what Allah and His Messenger did not legislate, and by this action he has contradicted his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
, and in another narration:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
. As for the prayer, it is valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
