The ruling on praying with the household for one who is far from the mosque
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a man has a house on top of a mountain, and there are no houses next to it, is it permissible for him to pray in congregation with his family? And what is the ruling regarding their situation? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
If the mosques are far away and the call to prayer cannot be heard, he prays alone. If he prays with his family, there is no harm in it. He prays with his women, and they stand behind him; there is no harm in that. As for if he has children, he prays with them, or if he has brothers or servants, he prays as people do: he is the imam, and they are behind him. And if the women pray with them, behind them, all of this is permissible.
However, if there are mosques near them where they can hear the call to prayer, it is obligatory for you to go to the mosque. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Bulugh al-Maram 2:308 If the mosque is near enough that its call can be heard without a loudspeaker due to its proximity, then he is required to go to it. But if it is far away and he cannot hear it except through a loudspeaker due to its distance, then he is not required to go. If he goes to seek reward, that is better and more excellent.
