The ruling on praying at home for one whose mosque is far from him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A letter reached the program from one of the listening brothers, containing a collection of questions. In one of them, he asks about the ruling on praying at home, especially if the mosque is far away and he has no means of transportation? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Praying the obligatory prayer at home is not permissible if one is able to pray in the mosque. It is obligatory for him to pray with the people; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever hears the call for prayer and and does not come (to the mosque for prayer), his prayer will not be accepted from him, unless he has a (legitimate) excuse.من سمع النداء فلم يأت؛ فلا صلاة له إلا من عذر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:308
. It was asked of Ibn Abbas: What is the excuse? He said: Fear, or illness. And due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) to the blind man when he asked him if he could pray in his house, he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do you hear the call to prayer?هل تسمع النداء بالصلاة؟
Sahih Muslim 653
. He said: Yes. He said:
Then respond.فأجب
. And because he (peace and blessings be upon him) threatened with the Fire the one who lags behind in the congregational prayer.
So it is obligatory for the one who has reached the age of accountability to attend the congregational prayer with the Muslims in the mosques, except if he is far from the mosque and does not hear the call to prayer, then there is no blame on him. If the mosque is far from you and you do not hear the call to prayer, there is no blame in praying at home. And if you pray in the mosque, even with hardship, it is better and has more reward, but it is not obligatory for you if it is far and you do not hear the call to prayer. The call to prayer by the usual voice, not by the loudspeaker. As for the loudspeaker, it may be heard from far away, and not everyone is able to walk to where it is heard.
So the conclusion is: It is not obligatory for you to go to the mosque if it is far, and you do not hear the call to prayer by the usual voice when voices are absent. But if you go and endure the hardship, it is better. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
