The ruling on prayer when the intention of the imam and the follower differs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
From the Liwa' of Taiz in Yemen, the listener Abdul-Wadud Abdullah Naji Mujahid al-Tamimi sent a message containing a collection of questions, among which is a question that says: If the intention of the imam and the follower differs, is the prayer valid?
Answer: The correct view is that it is valid. The correct view is that it is valid if, for example, the imam is praying the 'Asr prayer and a person who has not prayed the Zuhr prayer comes and prays behind him with the intention of Zuhr; according to the correct view, it is valid. Or if the imam has already performed the obligatory prayer and leads the others in a voluntary prayer, while it is an obligatory prayer for them; this is what Mu'adh did. He would pray the obligatory prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then go to his people and pray the obligatory prayer for them while he himself was praying a voluntary prayer. Or if the imam is praying an obligatory prayer and the followers are praying voluntary prayers, there is no harm in that. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
