The question: A message was received by the program from the listener: Ahmad Awad al-Sayyid Abdul Qadir, a Sudanese resident in Ta'if. Our brother asks and says: There is a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) , in which he said: Sahih Muslim 2557b And I know that there are verses from the Qur'an, among them: [Al-A'raf: 34]. How do we reconcile this verse with what is in that hadith?
The answer: There is no contradiction between the hadith and the verses. The fact that a person is expanded in his provision and his term is extended due to maintaining family ties or being dutiful to his parents does not prevent the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Munafiqun: 11]. The meaning is: Allah (Exalted and Majestic) makes maintaining family ties and being dutiful to parents among the causes of delaying his term in the pre-eternal past and the pre-eternal decree. So Allah (Exalted and Majestic) knows that this person maintains his family ties and is dutiful to his parents, so for this reason, he has an increase in his lifespan, and his lifespan is expanded for him. And that other person cuts off his family ties and is undutiful to his parents, so his lifespan is not expanded for him, and his lifespan is made such and such for a profound wisdom. And perhaps the lifespan of this undutiful person and this sinner is prolonged, and the term of the obedient one is hastened for other reasons and a profound wisdom from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) . And in the authentic hadith: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 22:732 meaning: being dutiful to parents.
It is of the same kind as the hadith of Anas:Sahih Muslim 2557b The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 56 Maintaining family ties, being dutiful to parents, and much supplication in the length of life are among the best causes of delaying the term, in what has passed in the knowledge of Allah. It does not mean that Allah has written that this person will die at such and such time and then delayed it. No, the intended meaning is that Allah (Exalted and Majestic) has made this person's dutifulness to his parents, his maintaining of his relatives, and his much supplication among the causes of delaying his term which has passed in the knowledge of Allah. So the knowledge of Allah does not change, nor is it followed by ignorance, nor preceded by ignorance. Rather, the knowledge of Allah is comprehensive (Glorified and Exalted is He) , and ignorance or deficiency does not befall it. So when the term of this person comes, his life is completed, and the other is likewise, and the other is likewise. Each has his causes. This one is prolonged in his term due to his dutifulness, maintaining of family ties, and much supplication. And this one is hastened in his term for other reasons. And this one is extended in his term for other reasons. So your Lord is Wise (Exalted and Majestic), and there is no contradiction between the causes; because terms are suspended by their causes, and provisions are suspended by their causes, and Allah is the One who decrees this and that (Glorified and Exalted is He) .
He who likes that his sustenance should be expanded and his age may be lengthened should join the tie of kinship.
So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].
The answer: There is no contradiction between the hadith and the verses. The fact that a person is expanded in his provision and his term is extended due to maintaining family ties or being dutiful to his parents does not prevent the saying of Allah the Exalted:
But never will Allah delay a soul when its time has come
Decree is not averted except by supplication, and lifespan is not increased except by dutifulness
It is of the same kind as the hadith of Anas:
He who likes that his sustenance should be expanded
Anyone who wants to have his provision expanded and his term of life prolonged should maintain ties of kinship.
