The questioner : The honorable Shaykh, we request an explanation of the hadith
nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication
Sunan Ibn Majah 4022Da’if (Darussalam)
and the hadith
Whoever loves that he be granted more wealth and that his lease of life be prolonged then he should keep good relations with his Kith and kin.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5986

The Shaykh : As for the saying:
nothing repels the Divine decree except supplication
Sunan Ibn Majah 4022Da’if (Darussalam)
, the meaning is that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) may decree something for a person, and that person supplicates to Allah, so He removes it from him, or rather, He averts the calamity from him and it does not befall him. For this reason, it is prescribed for us to recite the morning and evening adhkar in order to protect us from what harms us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the Verse of the Throne:
Whoever recites it in a night, a protector from Allah will remain over him, and no Shaytan will approach him until he becomes morning
So if a person does this, yes, if a person does what averts the calamity, then this is among the things that avert the divine decree.
And as for his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who likes that his sustenance should be expanded and his age may be lengthened should join the tie of kinship.
Sahih Muslim 2557b
, its meaning is that among the causes of a long life is that a person maintains the ties of kinship and is dutiful to his mother, because being dutiful to the mother is part of maintaining the ties of kinship. Likewise, being dutiful to the father is part of maintaining the ties of kinship. This does not mean that the lifespan becomes two lifespans, one shortened and one extended, but rather the lifespan with Allah is one. If a person is dutiful to his parents or maintains the ties of kinship, Allah knows from him that he will be dutiful and maintain ties, and his lifespan increases thereby. Yes.
