Seeking Forgiveness and Repentance from Sin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 8215 )
Q: I was a border guard officer, and we had checkpoints where food was brought for them from a restaurant near the center. At around nine in the evening or later, I sent one of the soldiers to get food for the checkpoints from the nearby restaurant. The soldier returned without being given the food, and when I asked him the reason, he said: “They did not open the door of the restaurant for me, and they were mocking me from behind the glass.” Then I sent another person, who was not a soldier, to verify this. He came back and informed me that they—the restaurant workers—had not opened the door and that they were mocking him from behind the glass. I was affected by this and went myself and asked the workers to open the door, but they did not open it until they saw that I was about to break the door down. They opened the door and I hit the workers, each one with one or two sticks, as a punishment for their mocking

, knowing that this was the only restaurant near the center where the checkpoints were located. After that, I felt fear of Allah the Exalted, and I searched for them so I could ask their forgiveness and pay them whatever money would satisfy them, but I found that they had gone to their home country. I have repented to Allah that I will not hit any person except by order, or in defense of myself, my protected relatives, or my property, knowing that I did not hit them out of revenge for myself, but as a punishment for their mocking the security soldiers without justification. I ask you to issue a ruling for me: Do I have a sin on me? And is there a repentance for me from that? Knowing that searching for them is difficult, and I do not expect to meet them. May Allah reward you with good.

A : If the matter is as you described, then you should seek forgiveness from Allah the Exalted and repent to Him; perhaps Allah will accept your repentance. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
