Are cartoon-style figures and Mickey Mouse considered images?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : On the occasion of mentioning images, one of the brothers says: Are figures in the style of caricature and Mickey Mouse considered images?

The Shaykh : I did not understand what these figures are?

The questioner : In the style of caricature.

The Shaykh : What does caricature mean?

The questioner : Caricature.

The Shaykh : Meaning an image that is a picture of mockery and jesting at some people. This image must be forbidden, even according to those who say that photographic images in this age are permissible and claim that they do not involve creating something new. But these jesting images, this mockery, involves creating something new. This should be a point of agreement regarding the prohibition. As for us, with the generality of his statement (peace be upon him) in all the hadiths about images:
Whoever draws an image
as we mentioned earlier,
would be compelled to breathe soul in them on the Day of Resurrection, but he would not be able to breathe soul (in them).
Sahih Muslim 2110b
,
Angels do not enter a house in which there is a picture
Sahih Muslim 2106e
, these are repeated terms from the Wise Lawgiver: image, image, image, images, without any condition that excludes some images from others. Except for what is in the hadith of Jibril (peace be upon him): "When he was appointed to meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then the time came, and Jibril did not enter the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) house. He was seen as if he was distressed. They asked him about the reason? He said (peace be upon him):
Indeed, Jibril promised me that he would come to me
. Before he finished speaking, Jibril appeared in front of the room. The Messenger went out to him and greeted him. Jibril (peace be upon him) said:
for we Angels do not enter a house in which there are images
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5365
. The word 'image' was repeated, in addition to the two hadiths mentioned earlier and other hadiths. So he only introduced a specific condition when Jibril said:
Look, for in the house there are images of men on the curtains or the drapes, and look, for in the house there is a puppy. So order the puppy to go out, and let its place be sprinkled with water, and order the images and the men to be changed until they become like the shape of a tree. So they did, and Jibril (peace be upon him) entered. They took out the puppy and changed the image, so he entered
. From such a hadith, Ibn Abbas took his previous fatwa when someone who engages in the forbidden means of earning a livelihood through forbidden images consulted him. He told him:
If it is absolutely necessary, then depict trees and stones.
. From such a hadith, he derived the permissibility of depicting natural things that have no spirit. We say: All images are forbidden. We do not distinguish between a hand-drawn image, a photographic image, or what is it called today, the television?

The questioner : Cartoon films, cartoon films.

The Shaykh : No, video.

The questioner : Video.

The Shaykh : Video. All of these are called images in language first, and then their effects are never different. Because the scholars clarified that two reasons for the prohibition of images appeared to them. One is stated in the hadith narrated by the Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She said: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was on a journey. When he returned, the house had been decorated with a curtain containing images. When the Messenger wanted to enter, his gaze fell upon the images. He refused to enter. He said to her: ما هذا يا عائشة ؟ What is this, Aishah?Sunan Abi Dawud 1565. She said: O Messenger of Allah, it is a curtain I placed for you. Or something to that effect. He said (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him): إنَّ أشدَّ الناس عذابًا يوم القيامة هؤلاء المصوِّرون ؛ يُقال لهم : أحيُوا ما خَلَقْتُم The most severely punished people on the Day of Resurrection will be these image-makers; it will be said to them: “Bring to life what you have created.”. In this hadith is a refutation of some contemporaries whom many people think are scholars and Islamic preachers. They first restrict the prohibition to three-dimensional images. As for images drawn on clothes and paper and the like, these are not three-dimensional, so they are permissible according to them. Then, with their claim that these three-dimensional images are the intended meaning of the hadiths forbidding images, what was the case in the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) when the Arabs worshipped idols and statues? Islam came to fight every means leading to shirk (associating partners with Allah). But when Islam entered their hearts and they knew tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and what contradicts it in terms of shirk and polytheism, it became permissible. They say this with boldness and without any evidence, nullifying the texts that the scholars have agreed to implement, even if only in one aspect. I mean, they agreed on the prohibition of three-dimensional images, but they permitted them claiming that this prohibition was temporary. As for when they became saturated with Islam and understood Islam, the prohibition increased. The truth is that this is legislation for which Allah has not sent down any authority. As for the others who distinguish between three-dimensional, saying it is forbidden, and non-three-dimensional, they have missed the point. Or in other words: it has a shadow. The answer: No. So this is a text forbidding the image, even if it is not three-dimensional. So all images are forbidden, unless they have no spirit. So whoever is afflicted with a type of image-making on clothes, let him establish a good sunnah (recommended practice). He will have its reward, and the reward of those who act upon it until the Day of Resurrection, without anything being deducted from their rewards. Then his provision will come to him, if Allah wills, in a better state, based on the previous verse: وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا * وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.[At-Talaq 65:2-3]. Do you have something?

The questioner: No.

The Shaykh : This is the thing you have, good, if Allah wills. In the name of Allah, please proceed.
The student : Regarding the topic our brother asked about, these images have brought about a disaster and a greater harm than... and that is the writing underneath them, especially what is written on women's clothing in English. You find some women have written on their clothing in English "kiss me" or "follow me," "this shirt is five dollars and the one underneath is fifty," "look but do not touch," "I am still a virgin." Meaning there are many phrases calling for zina (unlawful sexual intercourse) present under these images, under this image on these clothes.

The Shaykh : ... .
The student : ... .

The questioner : It gives prices...

The Shaykh : Have you ever prayed the congregational prayer with a young man in front of you, and on his back is an image of a woman with her hair disheveled? This is one of the blessings of the craft. Please. Do you have something?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Yes.
