The Categories of Divorce

Does divorce have categories? What are their names, if any? And what is the ruling on each of these categories? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: Yes, divorce is of two types: divorce in accordance with the Sunnah, and divorce in accordance with innovation. It is permissible divorce, prescribed divorce, and forbidden divorce. Divorce in accordance with innovation is when he divorces her during menstruation, during post-natal bleeding, or during a period of purity in which he had intercourse with her. This is an innovation. Likewise, divorcing her with three divorces is not permissible. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against that. Divorce in accordance with the Sunnah is when he divorces her with a single divorce only, during a period of purity in which he did not have intercourse with her, or while she is pregnant. This is called divorce in accordance with the Sunnah. If he divorces her with two divorces, there is no harm; it is permissible. As for divorcing her with three divorces, it is not permissible. This is how the Sunnah came. Yes.
