Ruling on missing the mosque prayer on the pretext of being occupied with dhikr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our brother says in another question: There is a group of Muslims who gather in the house of a scholar on certain days to remember Allah the Exalted. At prayer times, one of them calls the adhan for prayer in the house, and they pray in the house, even though there is a mosque in the village that is a ten-minute walk from the house. What is the ruling on their action?
Answer: Their gathering at times to read the Qur'an and study is good. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would remind his Companions, and they would gather with him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would remind them, teach them, and guide them. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) would remind his Companions every Thursday and teach them. So there is nothing wrong with gathering at times for reminding and studying, whether at night or during the day.
As for their missing the prayer, this is not permissible. It is obligatory for them to pray in the mosques, and no one is to pray in the house except for a valid legal excuse, such as illness.
In the two Sahihs, it is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I was thinking of commanding that the call to prayer be given, then I would tell a man to lead the people in prayer, then I would go out with some other men carrying bundles of wood, and go to people who do not attend the prayer, and burn their houses down around them.
Sunan Ibn Majah 791Sahih (Darussalam)
, so he threatened them with burning the houses of those who miss the congregational prayer. He also said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever hears the call for prayer and and does not come (to the mosque for prayer), his prayer will not be accepted from him, unless he has a (legitimate) excuse.
Bulugh al-Maram 2:308
. It was asked of Ibn Abbas: What is the excuse? He said: Fear or illness.
And similarly, the authentic hadith narrated by Muslim in his Sahih from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
When a blind man came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have no guide suitable for me to the mosque, do I have a dispensation to pray in my house? He said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): Do you hear the call to prayer? He said: Yes. He said: Then answer.
, and in another wording:
I do not find any permission for you.
Sunan Abi Dawud 552Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
. So this is a man who has no guide suitable for him, and yet he is told: Answer, meaning: Answer the adhan.
And Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, as narrated by Muslim in his Sahih:
I have seen the time when no one stayed away from it, except a hypocrite, who was well known for his hypocrisy
Sahih Muslim 654b
. So missing the prayer with the congregation is a great sin and one of the characteristics of the people of hypocrisy.
So it is obligatory for the believer to pray the five prayers in congregation, and to maintain that, and to beware of missing them, for missing them involves imitating the people of hypocrisy. Yes.
