Question:
The first message in this episode was sent to the program from the Syrian Arab Republic. It was sent by a listener from there who indicated his name with the letters: (M. B. H.). He says in one of his questions: A dispute occurred between two sheepherders who used to pray together. When the quarrel between them intensified, one of them swore that he would never pray because of the second person. My question is: Does he have to expiate for his oath, and does he bear a sin, or is the sin on the one who caused it, which is the second person? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
It is obligatory for this person who swore to expiate for his oath and to repent to Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) for what he said. Indeed, prayer is the pillar of Islam, and it is not permissible for a Muslim to leave it. Rather, it is obligatory for him to pray it, even if he is ill. He prays it according to his condition: sitting if he is unable to stand, or on his side if he is unable to sit, or lying down if he is unable to pray on his side, as the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came. This dispute is not an excuse for him to leave prayer. Rather, he must repent to Allah from this unjust oath, and he must pray as Allah commanded him, and he must expiate for his oath with the known expiation for an oath, which is feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. Whoever is unable to do that fasts for three days, as the Master (Exalted and Majestic is He) specified in His noble Book in Surat al-Ma'idah. He must also pray in congregation, whether with the shepherd he is with or with others. It is recommended for them to reconcile between themselves, and to pray together, and to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and to leave the dispute. They are two shepherds who need reconciliation, kindness, and cooperation. This Satanic whisper requires them to repent to Allah from it, and to beware of the causes of division. They must cooperate in righteousness and piety, and beware of the whispers of Shaytan that cause boycott, severance of ties, and enmity between them. We ask Allah for guidance for all of them. Yes.
The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
