The Ruling on Boycotting a Relative

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
...between one of the uncles and his nephew, to the point where the nephew has completely boycotted his uncle, such that he does not return his greeting. This situation has lasted for a long time, more than two years. The uncle tried to reconcile, but the nephew insists on boycotting him. It is known that he is a good young man and committed to the principles of the religion, but despite this, he continues to boycott his uncle. What is your opinion on this? And what is the punishment entailed by this?

Answer:
One looks at the uncle. If the uncle has committed apparent sins or known, apparent religious innovations, then his nephew is excused if he cuts ties with him and boycotts him until he repents.
However, if the uncle has no fault, but the issues are psychological or related to worldly matters, then it is not permissible for the nephew to cut ties with him, nor is it permissible for him to boycott him for more than three days. Boycotting for three days or less in worldly matters is allowed, and he is obligated to maintain his ties with him thereafter, greet him, and fulfill his rights. This is because the uncle is in the position of a father, so it is not permissible for him to cut ties with him or boycott him unless it is to expose sins and expose religious innovations. In that case, there is no harm in boycotting him until he repents to Allah from that.
