The Ruling and Conditions for a Woman Going Out for Da'wah Among Women

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence! I actually have a long letter from one of the sisters from Sudan who used the initials (N. M. A) for her name. The letter is connected and long. She says: I consider it of utmost importance and hope it will be presented to Your Eminence. She mentions that she is a girl who graduated from an Islamic university in Sudan, graduated from the Department of Islamic Studies, and studied in the field of da'wah. She is currently in a remote village in Sudan. She says: The people of my area are in dire need of da'wah and understanding the religion, especially 'aqeedah. They do not know much about the correct 'aqeedah, and false beliefs are widespread to a great extent. Given my presence in this area, is it permissible for me to engage in da'wah to Allah, knowing that I am calling to the Salafi da'wah alongside a group that calls to the Salafi da'wah? My work, Your Eminence, is among women only, away from ikhtilat (free mixing of men and women), with the other Shariah conditions such as hijab. Knowing that these areas are not far from where I am, but are very close areas that can be reached on foot. And does it require, Your Eminence, a mahram, especially for small distances that are not considered travel? Knowing that this village is safe and secure, and a woman does not fear for her safety there. She goes for da'wah with a group of women by cart or on foot, without ikhtilat, observing the conditions after taking permission from her family. Sometimes for teaching and sometimes for learning, due to the scarcity of male da'is to Allah and the absence of female da'iyah. The people of these areas are in need of da'wah to Allah. She also mentions and says: And is the meaning of the command in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And abide in your housesوَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ
[Al-Ahzab: 33], that a woman is not allowed to leave the house at all, neither for learning nor for teaching, knowing that the men do not know the required knowledge? And finally, does it mean that we do not visit our relatives? We ask Your Eminence to be generous with an answer.

Answer:
The required staying is for her to remain in the house, and not to go out except for a benefit or a need. If she is married, it is with her husband's permission. If she goes out for da'wah and teaching, this is a great and required need. So she is to be thanked and rewarded if she goes out for da'wah, teaching, and guiding to good, and teaching people good. This is a righteous deed, and she is commanded to do it. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousnessوَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِمَّنْ دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا
[Fussilat: 33]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.من دل على خير فله مثل أجر فاعله
Sahih Muslim 1893a
So she is to be thanked and rewarded, and there is no blame on her in that. But she does not travel except with a mahram. As long as it is in short distances that do not involve travel, this is a righteous deed, and it is required, and she is to be thanked for it, and there is no blame on her in that. Yes.

The presenter: What is the distance, Your Eminence Abdulaziz?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The presenter: What is the distance approximately?

Answer: What is not considered travel is a day and a night for a mount, approximately eighty kilometers by car. It is called travel: eighty kilometers, and what is close to it. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah bless you.
