The ruling on a woman shaking hands with non-mahram men

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
They say: One of the common customs among us is for unrelated women to shake hands with unrelated men. Is this handshake permissible, or is it forbidden?

Answer:
A woman shaking hands with an unrelated man is not permissible. In fact, some scholars have said that it is more severe than looking at her, because touching her may cause more desire than looking does. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
But I do not shake hands with women.إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
. When a woman extended her hand to him during the pledge of allegiance, he said:
But I do not shake hands with women.إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
. And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
By Allah! The hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman. He would only take their pledge of allegiance by words.والله! ما مست يد رسول الله يد امرأة قط، ما كان يبايعهن إلا بالكلام
(peace and blessings be upon him).
Therefore, handshaking between women and unrelated men is a reprehensible matter that is not permissible, neither with relatives nor with others, except if it is a mahram, such as her brother or her uncle, in which case there is no harm, or if women shake hands with women, in which case there is no harm. As for shaking hands with a man who is not a mahram to her, such as her cousin, her maternal cousin, her sister's husband, her husband's brother, or the like, this is not permissible, and it is one of the causes of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). Yes.
