What is the ruling on wiping over thin socks?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After these messages, there is a message from one of the female listeners from Riyadh. The sender (K. A. 'A.) says: Our sister has a number of questions—four—and in one of them she says: The scholars have differed on the ruling of wiping over thin socks, so what is the correct view? And what is the evidence for the impermissibility of wiping?

Answer:
The correct view is that wiping is done over a thick covering that covers the feet; because Allah permitted us to wipe over leather socks as a mercy for us. If the leather socks do not cover, the intended purpose is not achieved, the feet are exposed and visible, and the ruling for what is visible is washing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped, and the Companions wiped, over leather socks that covered.
Therefore, it is obligatory to follow their example in this; because they wiped over leather socks and over covering socks. It is not permissible to wipe over socks or leather socks that do not cover. However, a group of scholars mentioned that small holes, according to custom, do not harm and are excused; because a leather sock or sock may not be free from something slight that befalls it, such as a tear, a hole, or the like. If it is slight according to custom and not considered disgraceful, and if one is careful so that the leather socks are intact and the socks are intact, that is more cautious, and it is a way to avoid the disagreement of scholars and to stay away from doubt. In any case, the slight matter is excused, if Allah wills.

The presenter : Praise be to Allah, may Allah reward you with good.
