Question:
After this, a message was received by the program from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, sent by one of the sisters. She says: I am your sister in Allah, Rahma from Jordan. Our sister says about herself: I love the standing of the night prayer, but sometimes sleep takes me, and sometimes I wake up but I do not get up except with heaviness due to drowsiness. So what do you advise me to do so that I may rise with energy and desire for prayer and the remembrance of Allah?
Answer:
We advise you to pray before sleeping. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised some of his Companions to pray the witr before sleeping. So if a person fears that he will not get up, it is better for him to pray what is easy for him before sleeping, three or five or more, saying the closing salam after every two, then making it odd with one before sleeping. As for if you are confident that you will get up at the end of the night, that is better. And we advise you to sleep early, to go to bed early so that you may get up at the end of the night. As for staying up late, it makes standing the night prayer at the end of the night difficult. But we advise you to go to bed early, and to set the alarm for the appropriate time so that you may get up, if Allah wills.
So if that does not become easy for you, pray at the end of the night. You pray before sleeping, and praise be to Allah. And if the standing of the night prayer is missed by you due to sleep or illness, you pray during the day. You pray the duha prayer, whatever is easy for you, with the number of rak'ahs that you do at night. You pray them during the day and add one rak'ah to make them even. If the custom is five, you pray six, with three closing salams. And if the custom is seven and it does not become easy to do them at night due to sleep or otherwise, you pray eight during the day, with four closing salams.
And so on. As Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, and it was mostly that he would pray eleven rak'ahs at night, (peace and blessings be upon him). So if sleep or illness prevented him, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day, with six closing salams. This is the Sunnah, and this is what is prescribed. May Allah guide them all.
The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
