Ruling on Making Up the Night Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: With the praise of Allah the Exalted and His thanks, I have started praying at night. But what happened once was that I did not wake up on a certain night until the call to Fajr prayer, so I prayed Fajr. Do I have to make up what I used to pray?

Answer:
You do not have to make it up, but it is better if you do. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if he missed his night prayer, would make it up during the day (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him). However, it is a voluntary recommended practice. So if you used to pray ten rak'ahs at night plus one for witr, making eleven, it is better for you to pray twelve rak'ahs during the day, just as the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) did. You would conclude the prayer after every two rak'ahs. And if your custom was seven rak'ahs, you would pray eight during the day, with four conclusions. Likewise, if your custom was three, you would pray two conclusions, four rak'ahs. This is the Sunnah.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if illness or sleep prevented him from his night prayer, would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day."
It was his predominant practice (peace and blessings be upon him) at night to pray eleven rak'ahs, concluding after every two, and performing witr with one. If illness or sleep prevented him, he would pray them during the day and add one rak'ah, making it twelve rak'ahs, concluding after every two. This is the Sunnah. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
