The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

The questioner : Where is the question?

Another questioner : If you please, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : An altercation occurred between a brother and a priest, and this altercation ended with this brother insulting the priest. Then a group of brothers apologized to him or explained to him the tolerance of Islam, as they claimed. What is your opinion, O your excellence, regarding this matter?

The Shaykh : What kind of insult was it?

The questioner : What?

The Shaykh : What was the type of insult that the Muslim directed at the priest?

The questioner : I mean, like cursing, saying you are ignorant or you are a disbeliever.

The Shaykh : Explain it, for the effort of explaining water with water, what is the insult?

The questioner : I mean, he said to him, you are a disbeliever or you are ignorant, something like that.

The Shaykh : Well, in any case, this is contrary to the principle of His saying, the Exalted:
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best
[An-Nahl 16:125]
, and if you were harsh with the disbeliever, then with the Muslim
and argue with them in a way that is best وَجَادِلْهُمْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ
[An-Nahl 16:125]
To whom is this address directed? To the Messenger. To whom is "argue with them" directed? To the disbelievers.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : It is not permissible to be rude in argumentation with non-Muslims, because that would be a deterrent for them from the religion. Those who apologized to the priest did not commit a wrong, but the one who committed a wrong is the one who used that style of cursing and insulting others.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
