What is the meaning of: {So whoever follows My guidance will not go astray nor be miserable}?

Question:
The first message in this episode is from a listener, Ahmad Saleh Abdullah Muzaffar—apparently of Yemeni nationality and from Dhamar. Our brother is asking for an explanation of the statement of the Truth—Blessed and Exalted is He—I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan:
then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلا يَضِلُّ وَلا يَشْقَى ۝
[Taha 20:123]
And whoever turns away from My remembrance, for him is a hard life [Ta-Ha: 123-124]. Truthful is the Great Allah. Please, Your Eminence, explain these verses for this listener. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The scholars of tafsir have mentioned regarding this verse what explains and clarifies its meaning. Allah—Exalted and Majestic is He—said in His great Book, in Surat Ta-Ha:
[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].قَالَ اهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِنِّي هُدًى فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلا يَضِلُّ وَلا يَشْقَى ۝
[Taha 20:123]
And whoever turns away from My remembrance, for him is a hard life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind [Ta-Ha: 123-124].
Ibn Abbas—may Allah be pleased with them both—said regarding the verse: Allah has guaranteed that whoever follows the guidance of Allah will not go astray in this world, nor be miserable in the Hereafter. The meaning is: whoever follows the guidance and remains upright upon the truth with which Allah sent His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he will not go astray in this world; rather, he will be guided and upright. And he will not be miserable in the Hereafter; rather, he will have Paradise and honor. The guidance of Allah is what His great Book, the Qur'an, and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicate: performing the commands, leaving the prohibitions, believing in the news that Allah and His Messenger reported, adhering to the limits of Allah, and not transgressing them. This is the guidance.
Following the guidance is believing in the news, obeying the commands, leaving the prohibitions, and standing at the limits of Allah, not transgressing what Allah has set for him, and not falling into the prohibitions of Allah. Whoever remains upright upon this—obedience to Allah, sincerity to Him, love for Him, magnification of Him, and faith in Him and His Messengers—he will not go astray in this world; rather, he is upon the guidance. And he will not be miserable in the Hereafter; rather, he is happy in this world and the Hereafter.
And whoever turns away from the remembrance of Allah—meaning from His Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)—and does not follow the guidance, for him is a hard life. Allah—Exalted and Majestic is He—will test him with a hard life, which is the anxiety, distress, and difficulty that occur in his heart. Even if he were given the entire world, the distress, difficulty, doubt, and suspicion that occur in his heart is the hard life. This is from the hastened punishment. And for him on the Day of Resurrection is the painful punishment in the abode of humiliation, in the abode of Hellfire. And with this, Allah will gather him blind on the Day of Resurrection.
So the servant should fear the disobedience of Allah, submit to the Shari'ah of Allah, and remain upright upon His guidance, which came in His noble Book and the Sunnah of His trustworthy Messenger. And he should remain upright upon the truth wherever he is. This is following the guidance. And Allah, the Sublime, is the One who grants success to His servants. So the Muslim man and woman should be humble before Allah. Every believer, male and female, should be humble before Allah, asking Him, the Sublime, for success and guidance. And he should strive to understand the religion, to learn and to be discerning. So he should reflect upon the Book of Allah and increase in its recitation until he remains upright upon the commands and stops from the prohibitions, and until he believes in the news of Allah about what was and what will be. And likewise, he should care for the Sunnah, the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), by preserving it, studying it, and reviewing it with the scholars and students of knowledge, until he remains upright upon the truth. And he should ask about what is difficult for him. The one who does not know should ask the people of knowledge, and he should be discerning and understand the religion until he remains upright upon the guidance, and until his journey to Allah is with knowledge of what Allah and His Messenger said. This is either by his seeking of knowledge and striving in good, or by his asking the people of knowledge. As Allah, the Sublime, said:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لا تَعْلَمُونَ
[An-Nahl: 43].
And whoever is sincere in seeking and supplicating to Allah, strives in that, and is sincere to Allah in his intention, and stays away from what angers Allah, and keeps the company of scholars and asks them about what he does not know of his religion, then Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will help him and guide him, as He said (peace and blessings be upon him):
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way outوَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا
[Al-Talaq:2] ..
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِِ يُسْرًا
[Al-Talaq:4] He said (Glorified and Exalted is He):
O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive youيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تَتَّقُوا اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ فُرْقَانًا وَيُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ
[Al-Anfal:29] And al-Furqan is the guidance and the light.
So whoever fears Allah, strives to seek knowledge, asks about what is difficult for him, and is sincere to Allah in that, Allah, the Sublime, will make for him a Furqan, giving him knowledge, granting him success, and guiding him, by His grace and His kindness—Exalted and Majestic is He. This is His—Exalted and Majestic is He—treatment of His awliya (close friends of Allah), the people of His obedience, and those who are sincere in their love for Him and in following what pleases Him, the Sublime. He is the One who is generous and bountiful; He guides them, helps them, and grants them success. Yes.
