Explaining the manner of a man standing in the row

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the recommended practice regarding aligning the rows for those praying? Does the worshipper place a space of four fingers between his feet, or does he press his foot against the foot of the person next to him?

Answer:
The recommended practice is to align tightly in the rows and not leave any space between the feet; his foot should be pressed against his companion's foot without causing harm, without rubbing or hurting, but rather he should bring his foot close to his without spreading out and standing with his entire body. Some people spread out and take up the space of two, which is not acceptable. However, each person should draw close to the other until they close the gaps. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Align yourselves, close the gaps, and close the spaces, and do not leave openings for Satan.تراصوا، وسدوا الخلل، وسدوا الفرج، ولا تتركوا فرجات للشيطان
Anas said: "And the man would press his foot against his companion's foot," meaning they close the gaps. It does not mean that he should rub against him and hurt him. No, a man does not rub his foot against another's, but he presses it so that there is no gap between them.
