From the rulings of the Friday prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We are a group of young men, numbering more than fifty, who went on a trip to one of the parks outside the city of Riyadh, at a distance of 40 km. It happened that we were there on Friday, so we prayed the midday prayer on the basis that we were traveling. Some of our brothers objected to our doing this, saying: You are not traveling. We ask you, Your Eminence, to clarify the ruling in this matter, and what is the distance considered in the Shari'ah for travel? Or is it sufficient to be outside the built-up area, as we understood it to be? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The correct view is what you did; because you are not in a place of residence and settlement, and you are not travelers; because the distance mentioned is not travel. So it is obligatory for you to pray the prayer of a resident, and the Friday prayer is not obligatory upon you; due to the lack of settlement in the place mentioned. And success is from Allah.
