Also, for the student 'Abd al-Wahhab 'Umar al-Murayhi, another question, and he says: Is smoking and benefiting from its price forbidden, or disliked? Please mention the evidence.
Answer: Smoking is forbidden according to the scholars, and it is not permissible to smoke it, sell it, or consume its price, because of the great harm and much impurity in it. The doctors have agreed, and those who have known smoking through experience have agreed, that it is harmful and impure. For this reason, the most precise of the scholars have gone to the prohibition of it; because of its many harms and its impurity in itself. The evidence for this is His saying, the Exalted, in His Noble Book: [Al-Ma'idah: 4]. Allah, the Exalted, has only made lawful the pure things for His servants. The knowledgeable doctors have agreed that it is not among the pure things, but rather it is among the harmful impurities. It causes many diseases; among them is cancer, among them is death by sudden stroke, and among them are other diseases known to medical experts and those familiar with this. ... It is an impure tree. And among that is His saying, (Exalted and Majestic is He), in describing His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): [Al-A'raf: 157]. So smoking is among the impurities that harm those who use it, so it becomes forbidden, meaning: smoking. It is an impure tree that causes great harm, so it is obligatory to be certain of its prohibition, the prohibition of its price, and the prohibition of trading in it. Yes.
