Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third and final question in the letter from the sister (F. A. S.) from Taiz, Yemen, states: What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco? And what is the evidence for its prohibition? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: Cigarettes, their branches, and their derivatives are all forbidden. The evidence for this is the statement of Allah : [Al-Ma'idah: 4]. Allah commanded His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to say to the people: [Al-Ma'idah 5:4] when they asked him [Al-Ma'idah 5:4]? He commanded him to say to them: [Al-Ma'idah 5:4], and He, the Exalted, described His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in Surat al-A'raf, saying: [Al-A'raf: 157]. The knowledgeable people regarding tobacco, both doctors and non-doctors, have agreed that it is foul and harmful, causing great harm to those who use it. It is known to be a cause of many diseases, including cancer, stroke, and other well-known diseases that scholars have mentioned and written books about. Therefore, it is forbidden due to its foulness and its great harm. It may also deprive its user of consciousness if he delays it or consumes a lot of it. It is of great harm, so it is obligatory for every Muslim to leave it, both men and women alike. It is forbidden to sell it, buy it, trade in it, or use it and its derivatives, such as chewing tobacco and others. May Allah grant me and you health. Yes.
