The Ruling on the Hadith: “Woe to you, you have cut off the man’s neck…”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: In another hadith, it is said:
Woe to you, you have cut off the man’s neck! If one of you must praise, let him say: “I think he is so, and I do not testify to anyone with better than what Allah knows.”ويحك قطعت عنق الرجل! إذا كان أحدكم مادحاً لا محالة فليقل: أحسبه كذلك ولا أزكي على الله أحد
?
The answer: This is the authentic one. This is a sound hadith. A person should not exaggerate in praise, saying “he is such and such, and such and such.” Rather, he should say, “I think he is so, and Allah is his accountant,” because it may be that his inner state is contrary to what appears from him. However, he should mention his good deeds that he knows of him and say, “Allah is his accountant, and Allah is sufficient for him.” Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
