The ruling on a person whose leg has been amputated leading the prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I am a man whose leg was amputated below the knee due to a car accident. Is it permissible for me to lead the people in prayer when the imam is absent, or not? And is it permissible for me to wipe over it when performing wudu for prayer?
A: If this amputation does not prevent you from praying while standing, there is no harm in your leading the people, provided that you meet the remaining conditions for being an imam.
As for wiping over it, there is nothing wrong with it if some part of the foot remains, provided you wear a leather sock or a sock over ritual purity, and it covers the area for a day and a night for a resident, or three days and their nights for a traveler, as the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) states. However, if the leg was amputated above the ankle, there is no wiping or washing for it, because what is above the ankles is not a place for washing or wiping. May Allah reward you with good, console you for your loss, and grant you patience and the hope of reward.
