The Ruling on Sleeping in the Mosque

The questioner: He also has another question, asking: What is the ruling on sleeping in the mosque?
The Shaykh: There is no blame on sleeping in the mosque, and there is nothing wrong with it, for these are the houses of Allah, established for worship, and sleeping does not prevent that. Indeed, sleep may be an act of worship if it is intended to strengthen oneself for the obedience of Allah. The Companions used to sleep in the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), including the people of the Safa and others. Ali slept in the mosque when there was some difficulty between him and his wife, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him while he was in the mosque, woke him up, and said to him:Sahih al-Bukhari 441 when he saw the dust on him, peace and blessings be upon him. And Ibn Umar used to sleep in the mosque at times. So the conclusion is that there is no blame in that.
