The ruling on sleeping after the afternoon prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
And another asks: What is the ruling on sleeping after the afternoon prayer?
Answer:
We know of nothing regarding it. We know of nothing about sleeping after the afternoon prayer, and there is no harm in it. We know of nothing regarding any of the times, except for the sunset prayer; it is disliked to sleep before it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to dislike sleeping before it, meaning before the night prayer, and the hadith comes after that.
As for the afternoon, midday, forenoon, and dawn prayers, there is nothing wrong with it. However, a person should seek out the appropriate times if it is possible for him to pray the midday prayer, that is better than the afternoon prayer. And if it is possible for him to take a nap before the midday prayer, that is better. But because of work these days, many people do not get a nap, nor do they get to pray the midday prayer; so all that remains for them is after the afternoon prayer.
And if he sleeps at the beginning of the day, there is nothing wrong with it. But if it is possible for him not to sleep before the day begins, but rather to sit, remember Allah, and read the Qur'an, or to seek knowledge until the sun rises, and then to sleep a little after it rises, that is more preferable than sleeping immediately after the prayer. And there is no harm in that, and praise be to Allah.
