Ruling on Mixed Trips with Female Students and Teachers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Also, there is a third question, and it is likely the last question from our sister (A. A.) from Sudan. She says: Trips are organized for us for entertainment on the days of the festivals, and she says: We eat meals, and the professors eat with us, and the institute administration wants to remove the shyness between the student and her professors. Is it permissible for us to eat with them, or is eating with them forbidden? And what is our position?

Answer:
These trips also contain much evil, as long as there is mixing between men and women and they all eat together. There is a fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) between men and women in this, so it is not permissible. Rather, it is obligatory that there be a separate section for the women and a separate section for the men, where their food and their needs are provided. As for their mixing with the men, this leads to fitnah, and it leads to a man seeing from them what he should not see, such as their face, their arm, and their hair. It causes much fitnah. Then, when she extends her hand to eat and is present with them, he sees her face, he sees her mouth, and he sees her hand when she eats with it. All of this is fitnah and is not permissible, because covering the face is obligatory and hijab is obligatory, and this leads to not observing hijab.
However, if they eat in one part of the place and the men are in another part of the place, and some of them do not see others, then there is no harm, even if it is one place. If the women are in one section and the men are in another section, for example the professors, and some of them do not see others... they should wear jilbabs or abayas or something similar, and they eat with their faces turned to another direction, so that the men do not see them, then there is no harm.
However, if they mix at the same table and some of them see others while eating and beyond that, such as seeing some of the hair, or some of the necklaces, or some of... all of this is not permissible. Yes.
