The Ruling on Co-educational Study and Eating from a Father’s Forbidden Earnings

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: I have a friend who is a believer in the truth of Allah, and he lives with a family whose head earns money through forbidden means, namely: gambling and stealing from people. It is known that this family, as it is said, is “modern,” meaning: in displaying their charms and adorning themselves outside the home. This person has given his father and brothers many, many pieces of advice, but to no avail. He is a student in a co-educational school with boys and girls, in the same classroom and seating, and the girls display their charms and temptations before all the young men. What should he do? Should he leave the house, and he has no source of income? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
It is obligatory for the advisor, and this young man, to fear Allah, and to leave the house and distance himself from the causes of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). Allah will make for him a way out and an exit, either by living with the students if there is housing available, or by other means. Allah the Exalted says:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way outوَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا ۝
[At-Talaq 65:2]
and He will provide for him from where he does not expect [Al-Talaq: 2-3], and He says the Exalted:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا
[Al-Talaq: 4].
So he must fear Allah and distance himself from the causes of fitnah. Likewise, the school in which he studies; he should not study in it if it is co-educational. He should seek work that suits his condition and not study in this school. Rather, he should study with the scholars in the mosques or in private schools where there is no mixing. Seeking knowledge is not an excuse for him to sit with women and girls and mix with them. This is a disease for his heart and a disease for his religion, and one of the causes of his destruction. So it is not permissible for him to sit with them in the study seats, nor to remain with his family as long as they are engaged in corruption and evil.
As for advice, he should offer it, strive in advising, and continue advising, in case he is answered. But he should not sit with them as long as their food is forbidden and their deeds are vile. He should not sit with them; because the food is not pure and the family is not sound, and mixing with them contains what it contains of evil.
So it is obligatory that he leave this place, and he should be cautious. There is no harm in visiting if he intends to advise his parents, brothers, and relatives. As for eating and living, he should move to another place where he is safe in his religion. Allah will help him and make his affairs easy, as He the Exalted said:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way outوَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا
[Al-Talaq: 2]. May Allah provide for everyone success and guidance. Yes.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
