Ruling on Reciting (Ya Sin) for the Deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: He also asks: What is the ruling on reciting (Ya Sin) for the deceased?
The Shaykh: It is reported in a weak hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the recitation of (Ya Sin) for our dead,
Recite Yasin (Surah no. 36), over those who are dying.اقرءوا على موتاكم (يس)
Bulugh al-Maram 537
meaning: for those who are dying. The scholars interpreted "the dead" here as "those who are dying." The one who is dying is called "dead" because he is near death. However, the hadith is weak, so it is not a recommended practice (sunnah) according to the correct view, due to the lack of authenticity of the hadith. Some scholars thought it was authentic and therefore recommended it. If it is recited for the purpose of admonition and reminder, and the person is of sound mind, he benefits from reciting (Ya Sin) or other parts of the Qur'an. This is all good. However, the ruling that it is a recommended practice (sunnah) requires evidence, and the hadith is weak according to the scholars of verification. Yes, because it is narrated by a man called Abu Uthman, who is unknown. Yes.
