The ruling on reciting Surah Yasin for the deceased after his death

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message sent to the program from Lebanon, from the listener: Hasan al-Sumayrid. We presented part of Brother Hasan’s questions, and in this episode, he has another set of questions. Among his questions in this episode, he says: When a Muslim dies, they recite Surah Yasin for him at the graveyard, and in the home for a week, and on the day of the fortieth anniversary of his death. Is this permissible? Please guide people regarding this matter, as it is widespread? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
This practice that the questioner asked about is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis. It is not prescribed to recite for the deceased after his death, neither in the house, nor in the graveyard, nor on the fortieth day after his death, nor at any other time with this intention. Rather, this is among the innovations that people have introduced. What is prescribed is to recite for him when he is in his death throes, before he dies.
If he is in his death throes, it is prescribed to recite for him. If Surah Yasin is recited for him, that is good, because some hadiths have been reported regarding it:
Recite Yasin (Surah no. 36), over those who are dying.اقرؤوا على موتاكم يس
Bulugh al-Maram 537
Although there is discussion regarding its chain of narration, there is no harm in it. He may be admonished by it, and he may benefit from it before he dies, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
‘Urge your dying ones to say La ilaha illallah.”لقنوا موتاكم لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 1444Sahih (Darussalam)
Teach your dying ones, say to him: Say: There is no god but Allah, until it is his last word. And in the hadith:
If anyone's last words are "There is no god but Allah" he will enter Paradise.من كان آخر كلامه لا إله إلا الله؛ دخل الجنة
Sunan Abi Dawud 3116Sahih (Al-Albani)
So that is among the causes of entering Paradise if he dies upon the oneness of Allah (tawhid) and faith, being sincere and pure. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
