The Obligation of Repentance for One Who Has Exceeded the Bounds Against Himself Through Sins
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A lengthy letter from the listener Hanaf from the Minufiya Governorate in the Arab Republic of Egypt, stating: I am twenty years old, and I have committed many sins. Will Allah forgive me for what I have done if I repent to Allah and do not return to them again?
Answer:
Yes, whoever repents, Allah turns to him in mercy. If you repent to Allah with a sincere repentance that includes regret for the past, abandoning the sin, and resolving not to return to it, Allah will forgive you. And if you have a right owed to someone, you must give them their right. If you have committed an injustice regarding wealth or blood, you must give the owner of the right his right. This is part of the completion of repentance. For Allah, the Exalted, says: [Surat al-Nur: 31] And He, the Exalted, says: [Az-Zumar 39:53] meaning: do not despair [Surat al-Zumar: 53] The scholars are in agreement that this verse is regarding those who repent; whenever they repent, Allah forgives them even shirk (associating partners with Allah), which is the greatest of sins. Whoever repents and submits to Islam, Allah turns to him in mercy .
So, have good opinion of Allah, do not despair, and be steadfast in your repentance.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : Yes.

And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَSay, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah
قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِِIndeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُSo, have good opinion of Allah, do not despair, and be steadfast in your repentance.
