Question:
He also requests an explanation of this report:Sahih al-Bukhari 2443.
Answer:
This is an authentic hadith. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 2443 This is a phrase used by the Arabs. The Arabs had tribal loyalty; they would support their own people even if they were wrongdoers. This was well known among them: Sahih al-Bukhari 2443 When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said it, they asked: O Messenger of Allah! How can I help him if he is a wrongdoer? He said: Sunan al-Bayhaqi 7:37 Helping the wronged is clear, but helping the wrongdoer means: preventing him from wrongdoing and restraining him from injustice. That is how you help him. If he intends to strike someone, you say: No, stop, and hold him back. If he intends to take someone’s wealth, you hold him back. That is how you help him. If you have the ability, you prevent him from doing that. That is helping the wrongdoer. You help him against himself, and against his Shaytan. You help him against his Shaytan, and against his false desires. Yes.
