Answer:
This verse, on its apparent meaning, informs us that the Exalted does not forgive shirk (associating partners with Allah) for one who dies upon it. If he dies upon shirk, He does not forgive him. If he dies cursing the religion, asking the dead, calling for aid from the dead, or from the angels, or from the jinn, or from idols, calling upon them, asking them for victory, asking them for relief, healing the sick, and the like of this, if he dies upon this, he is not forgiven; he is destined for the Fire, we seek refuge in Allah.
And likewise, according to the correct view, if he dies leaving off the prayer, not praying... he is not forgiven; because he died upon disbelief in Allah, or died denying the prayer, denying zakah, denying the fasting of Ramadan, denying Hajj while having the ability; he is destined for the Fire, he is not forgiven —we seek refuge in Allah— or if he dies cursing the religion, or mocking the religion, or denying the Hereafter and Paradise, or the Fire or Paradise, all of this is disbelief in Allah, and shirk with Him, the Exalted. Whoever dies upon it, he is never forgiven —we ask Allah for safety— rather, he has the Fire for eternity.
As for one who dies upon sin, which is less than shirk, dying upon zina (unlawful sexual intercourse) without repenting, or upon khamr (intoxicants), or upon riba (usury or interest), or undutifulness to his parents, or one of them, or severing family ties, or the like of these sins.. without repenting; this is under the will of Allah. If Allah wills, He forgives him, the Exalted, because of his tawhid (the oneness of Allah), his Islam, and his other obedience. And if our Lord, the Exalted, wills, He puts him in the Fire and punishes him therein according to the sin he died upon, then he comes out of the Fire into Paradise after being purified in the Fire.
And the people in the Fire are according to their deeds. The sinners, when they enter the Fire, are according to their deeds. Some of them have a long duration, and they remain in it with a duration that has an end. And some of them do not have a long duration because of the fewness of their sins when they enter the Fire. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Furqan 25:68] his punishment be doubled on the Day of Resurrection, and he remain therein in humiliation except for him who repents and believes [Al-Furqan: 69-70]. It mentions that the mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah), the zani (one who commits zina), and the killer remain in it, but the remaining is different: the remaining of the mushrik does not end forever, and the remaining of the killer, if he did not consider killing permissible, and the zani, if he did not consider zina permissible, but died upon sin, this remaining has an end. When the duration that Allah intended ends, he comes out of the Fire, after purification and cleansing.
And likewise His saying —Exalted and Majestic is He—: [Al-Nisa: 93]. This is his reward if He punishes him.. and if He pardons him, the Exalted, He is the Pardoning, the Forgiving. And if He punishes him, because he died upon tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and faith, but he fought; then his remaining has an end. It is not like the remaining of the disbelievers. His remaining has an end. When the duration ends, Allah takes him out of the Fire by his tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and Islam upon which he died.
And likewise the rest of the sinners, when they enter the Fire; they have a duration that they reach, then they come out, either by the intercession of the intercessors, like the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or by the intercession of the angels, the prophets, or the believers. And some of them come out without the intercession of anyone, rather by the mercy of Allah alone. If... the duration passes; Allah has mercy on him, and He takes him out without the intercession of anyone. Yes.

And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty.

But whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment.
And likewise the rest of the sinners, when they enter the Fire; they have a duration that they reach, then they come out, either by the intercession of the intercessors, like the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or by the intercession of the angels, the prophets, or the believers.
