Ruling on Giving Gifts

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner, Hamdi, who works in Riyadh, says: He is working in the Kingdom. He asks: When I return to my country, is it necessary for me to bring gifts for my family and relatives? He notes that this matter will cost him a great deal. He also asks: If I do not bring gifts, will I have committed a sin by severing family ties with my family? Please guide us in this matter?

Answer:
Gifts are not obligatory. No, it is not required. Gifts are not obligatory, and you do not sever family ties if you do not bring gifts. Gifts are at your discretion. If you see fit to bring gifts for your close relatives, there is no harm in it; otherwise, it is not required. You know best what is beneficial. The important thing is to preserve the money for the needs of the house, your own needs, and the needs of your family. If you buy a light gift for your wife, or your father, or your mother, or your brothers, there is no harm. And if that is difficult for you, praise be to Allah; there is no requirement for a gift. Preserve the money for the needs of the house, your own needs, or to pay off your debt. As for gifts, they are recommended when there is ease... when there is ability and ease. If you give to your brothers, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Give gifts to one another, and you will love one anotherتهادوا تحابوا
May Allah send blessings upon him and grant him peace. So a gift is good with ability and with abundance, if it is facilitated without hardship.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, O His Eminence the Shaykh.
