The ruling on Hajj for one who has a debt
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says, “O His Eminence the Shaykh: Is the obligatory Hajj required of a person who has a debt?”
Answer:
If he has the ability to pay the debt and perform Hajj, it is obligatory for him. But if he does not have the ability, he starts with the debt, and Hajj is not obligatory for him. However, if he has money with which he can pay off the debt and also perform Hajj, Hajj is obligatory for him, because Allah said: [Al-Imran: 97]. So if he has wealth with which he can pay off the debt and also perform Hajj, it is obligatory for him. But if his wealth is equal to the debt, or less than the debt, Hajj is not obligatory for him.
