The Ruling on Temporary Divorce
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message sent to the program from the sisterly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The sender of the message is a listener from there, identified as (M. A. M). We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode, he has two questions remaining.
His first question says: A man said to his wife: "You are divorced for a period of one year." What is the ruling on that? He wants to take his wife back, so what should he do?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
It is known among the scholars that divorce is not time-bound; whenever it occurs, it takes effect. This is unlike prohibition (of marriage), which is time-bound. As for the woman, her divorce is not temporary; whenever she is divorced, her divorce becomes non-time-bound. If it is a revocable divorce, he has the right to take her back. If it is an irrevocable divorce, she is separated from him by it. However, due to the gravity of the matter and the obligation to be cautious, we defer the final decision on this to another episode, because the matter deserves careful attention. And success is from Allah. Yes.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good. So, in a future meeting, we will present this topic, if Allah wills.
The Shaykh : Yes, yes, in the other episode, if Allah wills.
The presenter: May Allah will it.
