The Ruling on Eating with Non-Muslims and Eating What Is Dedicated to Other Than Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
With Allah’s blessing, we begin this session with a question from one of the brothers from Sudan. He says in this question: What is the ruling on eating with non-Muslims, and what is the ruling on eating imported meats, which are dedicated to other than Allah at the time of slaughter? We ask the Shaykh’s eminence to provide an answer.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, and all praise is due to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
As for eating with non-Muslims, if there is a pressing need for it, there is nothing wrong with it, such as with guests, or if one passes by a group and they invite him to eat with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate with the Jews, the food of the People of the Book; so there is no blame on him. However, one should not take them as close friends or intimate companions; it is only for a pressing need or an unforeseen circumstance, such as if they are guests in his home, or if he passes by them for a need, and he eats with them. There is nothing wrong if the food is free of any prohibition, such as the food of the People of the Book, or food in which one does not know of any barrier, like fruit or bread, that contains nothing preventing eating.
As for if the food contains meat from what was dedicated to other than Allah, it is not permissible, such as the slaughter of polytheists who worship idols, or a slaughter known to be dedicated by the People of the Book to other than Allah; it is not permissible. If one knows that this meat was dedicated to other than Allah, he does not eat from it. However, if he does not know, the original state is safety; the original state is purity in the food of the People of the Book.
As for the slaughter of polytheists, one does not eat from it, such as: worshippers of idols, worshippers of the Bedouin, worshippers of al-Husayn, worshippers of 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, worshippers of statues, worshippers of jinn. Their food is not eaten, meaning: their slaughter. It is specific to the People of the Book, the Jews and the Christians, from whom it is not known that it was dedicated to other than Allah. If the Jews and the Christians slaughter in the ordinary manner, and if they slaughter something for other than Allah, and you know that they slaughtered for other than Allah, it is not eaten; because Allah said regarding the prohibited things:
and that which has been dedicated to other than Allahوَمَا أُهِلَّ بِهِ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ
[al-Baqarah:173].
And likewise, the slaughter of the communists, for they are atheists who are more disbelieving than the polytheists; so their slaughter is not eaten—may Allah grant us safety. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
