The Ruling on Being Accounted for Sins After Abandoning Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: I heard that a young man did not pray until he reached the age of twenty, and he was answered that Islam abrogates what came before it. Does this mean that he will not be held accountable for what passed?
Answer:
Whoever repents with a sincere repentance, Allah turns to him in mercy regarding sins, or abandoning prayer, or types of shirk (associating partners with Allah). Repentance abrogates what came before it. So if he repents when he is twenty years old, or thirty, or fifty, or one hundred years old, with a sincere repentance from shirk and from all sins; Allah turns to him in mercy if he repents with a sincere repentance, having regretted what passed, ceased from it, and resolved with a true resolve not to return to it. Then Allah turns to him in mercy. And if he has injustices against people, he must fulfill them along with that. He must give people their rights, or seek their forgiveness.
And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says: [An-Nur: 31] And He says, Exalted is He: [At-Tahrim: 8] And perhaps from Allah is obligatory. And He says, (Exalted and Majestic is He): [Al-Furqan: 68-70] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 710 And praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter: Praise be to Allah. May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds
(68) And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. (69) Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated - (70) Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
Verily, emigration wipes out all the previous sins
