The ruling on making up missed prayers for one who repents from abandoning them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He has a question that perhaps clarifies another aspect of his life. He asks the Shaykh and says: During my youth, some days would pass without us praying the obligatory prayers. There were many such days, may Allah forgive us and you. I have read in one of the newspapers that it is necessary to make them up, even though the time has passed; that is, after the prescribed prayers. I am now, praise be to Allah, praying all the obligatory prayers at their times. Please guide me to the correct answer.
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The obligatory thing is to repent from that, and there is no making up of prayers required. This is the correct opinion among the scholars, because abandoning prayer is disbelief, and disbelief does not disappear except through repentance. So if a person abandons prayer and then repents, he owes no making up of prayers. This is the preferred opinion and the correct one. Nothing is required of you, if Allah wills, except repentance. So you must have sincere repentance, regret for what has passed from you, the resolve not to return to it, and to increase in good deeds and righteous works, as Allah the Exalted said:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
[Surat al-Nur: 31].
And
Repentance wipes out what came before itالتوبة تجب ما كان قبلها
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 16:896
as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, we ask Allah to grant you and us sincere repentance, and to protect you and us and the Muslims from the whispers of Satan. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
