What one who repents from abandoning prayer should do

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message we received for the program from the sender Abu Muhammad, an Egyptian national residing in Jeddah. He says in his message: My father is a poor man, and he had no income other than a daily wage that did not exceed five qirush. He used to work for me and for a family of sixteen members. During this time, he would pray some obligatory prayers and miss others. He would work in his shop and say: "Running after the pension is an act of worship." Now he is seventy-five years old, and he has no work other than worship and fasting. Now we ask: What is the ruling regarding the years in which he neglected some of the obligatory prayers?
Answer: It is obligatory for him to repent to Allah , with sincere repentance, with the repentance of the sincere; because his action was a great crime, and seeking provision and earnings for the family does not prevent prayer. Rather, he must prioritize the right of Allah. He works to seek provision at other times. So he erred and made a mistake; he erred and made a mistake in this action of his. So it is obligatory for him to repent to Allah with sincere repentance; by feeling remorse for his bad past actions, quitting them, standing firm on prayer, and making a sincere resolve not to return to this bad action of abandoning prayer. And whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance,
The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam)
. Allah the Exalted says:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
[An-Nur: 31], and He says the Exalted:
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance.
[At-Tahrim: 8].
So the Muslim man and the Muslim woman, when something of sins and disobedience occurs from them, should hasten to repent, and be sincere in that. If the repentance becomes sincere, containing remorse for what has passed, quitting it, and a sincere resolve not to return to it, along with returning the right to its owner if there is a right of people in it, then the repentance is valid and Allah forgives him the sin, Glorified and Exalted is He. And there is no doubt that striving for the widow and the poor and seeking provision is a required matter and an act of worship. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The one who strives for the widow and the poor is like the one who fights in the path of Allah. The narrator said: And I think he said: And like the one who fasts and does not break his fast, and the one who stands in prayer and does not rest.
. So seeking lawful provision to spend on his sons, daughters, and wife, this is a required matter and an act of worship and obedience to Allah. But it is not permissible for him to neglect prayer with it, or fasting Ramadan, or anything else that Allah has made obligatory upon him. Rather, he must pray as Allah commanded and fast as Allah commanded, and work to seek provision.
So his action and his excuse of seeking provision is a mistake, a great error. But with repentance, Allah forgives us and him. If he repents with sincere repentance, Allah forgives him . But he is not required to make up the missed prayers; he is not required to make up the past ones; because abandoning prayer is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) according to the correct of the scholars' opinions. And when a disbeliever repents, Allah accepts his repentance, and he is not required to make up the missed acts. Allah the Majestic and Exalted said:
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for themقُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[Al-Anfal: 38], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam)
. So he must repent to Allah with sincere repentance, feel remorse, and increase in good deeds and seeking forgiveness. And Allah the Exalted accepts his repentance, and he is not required to make up anything, neither prayer nor fasting. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
