The ruling on a fiancé corresponding with his fiancée, and vice versa

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner is from the Arab Republic of Egypt, and he has used the initials (S. M.) for his name. He works in Riyadh and says in this question: What is the ruling in the Shari'ah, in your view, regarding a fiancé corresponding with his fiancée, and vice versa, considering that not corresponding may cause the fiancée psychological distress, as well as health and academic harm? Please guide us in light of this question?

Answer:
I am not aware of any harm in his speaking to her, and her speaking to him, by telephone or by written correspondence, to confirm the engagement or to ask about certain important matters that do not lead to forbidden meeting before marriage, such as asking about this or that. She asks him, and he asks her, about matters related to marriage and the benefit of the marriage, provided there is no fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) from it. In that case, there is no blame on him whether by way of writing or by way of a telephone call.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, Your Eminence the Shaykh.
