The meaning is: supplication, that he should pray for them.
Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah 's blessings] upon themخُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِمْ بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ
[Surah al-Tawbah: 103] means: he takes charity from them and prays for them with success, mercy, and abundant replacement. This is the meaning of "pray for them," meaning: he prays for them with blessing.
