The Ruling on a Woman Greeting a Non-Mahram Man and Returning His Greeting

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In her second question, she asks His Eminence Shaykh Abdulaziz: What is the ruling on a woman returning the greeting of non-mahram men?

Answer:
There is no harm in returning the greeting or in greeting, as the women used to greet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he would return their greetings, provided there is no cause for fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) in the ordinary greeting, with no coquetry or seductiveness. She should give an ordinary greeting, and it is permissible for him to return it. The women used to greet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would return their greetings, but with covering, hijab (the covering prescribed for women), and without seclusion.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
