What is the ruling on a woman speaking with a non-mahram man?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on a woman responding to a man who is not her mahram: for example, if she goes to the pharmacy of a clinic, and there is only a good man there? Knowing that the pharmacy is for both women and men, and may Allah reward you abundantly.

Answer:
There is no harm in responding to him. The Companions used to respond to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and female Companions used to respond to the male Companions. She says: "Peace be upon you," and they say: "And upon you peace." If she greets them, she says: "And upon you peace. How are you? How are your children?" There is no harm in this, just as she would say to her husband's brother or her sister's husband: "How are you? How are your children? How is my sister?" There is no harm in this, provided there is hijab and covering, no coquettishness, and no submission in speech. Allah says:
then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covetفَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِالْقَوْلِ فَيَطْمَعَ الَّذِي فِي قَلْبِهِ مَرَضٌ
[Al-Ahzab: 32]. It should be with a moderate voice, without submission or coquettishness, but with a moderate voice in the greeting and in speech. She buys her needs, but without seclusion. She buys from the pharmacist without seclusion, at the door, from the outside, unless someone is with her. She does not seclude herself with him, and there is no harm in that. Not with her sister's husband, not with her husband's brother, nor with anyone else, in terms of speech. But she does not shake hands with him. She does not shake hands with anyone who is not her mahram. She does not shake hands with her husband's brother, nor his uncle, nor his maternal uncle, nor with her sister's husband. She may shake hands with her mahrams, there is no harm in that. She shakes hands with her brother, her paternal uncle, her mother's husband, her daughter's husband, there is no harm in that. As for shaking hands with a non-mahram, no. Even without a garment, she does not shake his hand ever. "Peace be upon you," "And upon you peace," only, without shaking hands.
