The manner of greeting a non-mahram woman

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Finally, our brother asks and says: What is the correct manner of greeting non-mahram women?

Answer:
It is like the greeting to others: "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh" (Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings) for men and women. If he says "Alaykum" with the nun, there is no harm. The point is: this is the Shari'ah greeting. And they say: "Wa alaykum as-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh" (And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings), just as he said to them.
If he says "As-salamu alaykum," it is obligatory for them to say "Wa alaykum as-salam." If he says "wa rahmatullahi," it is obligatory for him to say "Wa alaykum as-salam wa rahmatullahi." And if he says "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh," it is obligatory to respond by saying "Wa alaykum as-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh." Because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says:
And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet [in return] with one better than it or [at least] return itوَإِذَا حُيِّيتُمْ بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّوا بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَا أَوْ رُدُّوهَا
[An-Nisa: 86]. So the response is obligatory, and the addition is recommended. The addition of "wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh" is recommended. So if the Muslim says it, it is obligatory for both men and women to return it. So if he passes by women or enters their house, he greets them, but in a manner that does not involve fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), rather it should be with hijab (the covering prescribed for women), with modesty, and without seclusion with the woman. It should be in a Shari'ah manner that involves no fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and no suspicion. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. How is the manner of the handshake, if you please?

The Shaykh: It is not permissible for a man to shake hands with a non-mahram woman; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
But I do not shake hands with women.إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman. He only pledged allegiance to them with words."
So a man does not shake hands with a non-mahram woman, and it is obligatory for her to observe hijab (the covering prescribed for women) from him, and he does not seclude himself with her either. But he greets her without seclusion and without a handshake. As for mahram (a relative one may not marry) women, there is no harm in shaking hands: his sister, his aunt, his mother, there is no harm. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
